Indian remake of Pasoori, a popular Pakistani pop song that gained immense popularity in both countries last year, has stirred up a heated response among Indians. The song originally performed by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill and featured on Coke Studios Pakistan. Now its been released with mediocre reviews as part of the upcoming Bollywood film Satyaprem Ki Katha, titled Pasoori Nu.
Upon its debut on Monday, the music video of the Indian version song garnered millions of views on YouTube despite the criticism. Many listeners expressed their dissatisfaction, deeming the performance unnecessary while some appreciated it. The remake features Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, and with Arijit Singh, lending his vocals to the song. There was high anticipation surrounding its release. The lyrics were co-written by Sethi himself and Indian writer Gurpreet Saini.
Although the new version retains the infectious pop melody, it carries a more subdued vibe overall. However, the Indian rendition faced severe backlash from numerous Indians. They felt that the original essence of the song had been completely ruined. Some voiced their frustration with Bollywood’s tendency to recycle old films and songs instead of creating fresh content. Some stating that they wished for originality to be preserved.
On the other hand, there were those who praised the song and defended it against the harsh criticism. Admirers hailed it as the best gift for every music fan, appreciating Arijit Singh’s rendition.
