Govt assigns Pakistan Post to deliver electricity bills nationwide

ISLAMABAD: The government has given Pakistan Post the new responsibility of delivering electricity bills across the country, as per the report.

To start, this task will be launched on a trial basis, with postal workers distributing bills in one sub-division under each power distribution company (DISCO). If the pilot run is successful, the service will be extended gradually to cover more areas.

Discussions are also ongoing to bring K-Electric on board for the same initiative.

Officials shared that within six months, Pakistan Post is expected to fully manage bill delivery nationwide. Eventually, the postal service will also take charge of printing the electricity bills.

Instructions about this new role have already been dispatched to all Postmaster Generals across the country.

Meanwhile, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), under the direction of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, has launched Pakistan’s first-ever Artificial Intelligence-powered Customs Clearance and Risk Management System (RMS).

In a meeting to review ongoing FBR reforms, it was explained that this system will use Artificial Intelligence and BOTs to assess the value and nature of goods during imports and exports.

Officials highlighted that the risk management setup will evolve continuously through automation and machine learning, keeping track of goods movement.

“During the initial testing of the new system, over 92% improved performance was observed.”

The early results showed an 83% increase in identified Goods Declarations (GD) for tax purposes, and clearance through the green channel more than doubled.
