The interim federal government has initiated a nationwide operation against gas thieves, following their earlier commitment to combat electricity theft. Teams from the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Islamabad Region have uncovered instances of gas theft in 34 localities, within Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Additionally, specialized teams have identified gas theft in areas such as Murree, Taxila, Attock, Fateh Jang, and Kahuta. It has been reported that the stolen gas was diverted to supply both factories and residential properties.
On the same day, the caretaker federal government unveiled its strategy to crack down on electricity theft nationwide. aiming to address the escalating circular debt in the power sector. These actions were disclosed by the caretaker Minister, for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, and the Power Minister for Energy, Muhammad Ali, during a press conference.
