Capcom’s Resident Evil series has consistently been a success, with even the remakes proving to be major hits for the Japanese game developer. Notably, both the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 rank among the top 10 best-selling Capcom games.
Furthermore, the remake of Resident Evil 4 received a Game of the Year award nomination. Capitalizing on this success, Capcom has officially announced that more Resident Evil remakes are in the pipeline.
Yasuhiro Anpo, the director of the Resident Evil 4 remake, confirmed this news during a recent PlayStation event. He said:
“Yes. We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and so we want to continue doing more. What game we will remake in the future is something that we would like to announce in the future, so please look forward to it.”
While fans eagerly await the revelation of the next Resident Evil remake, speculation has arisen regarding potential candidates. Resident Evil: Code Veronica, often overlooked but crucial to the series’ narrative, emerges as a popular choice.
Additionally, there’s a case for revisiting the original Resident Evil, which, despite a previous Gamecube remake, is over two decades old and could benefit from a modern overhaul akin to the successful treatment of Resident Evil 2.
Looking beyond, the landscape for potential remakes becomes more uncertain. Titles like Resident Evil 0, 5, and 6 present intriguing possibilities, albeit likely requiring more extensive transformations by Capcom to achieve the level of success seen with previous remakes.
