Pakistan election 2024, results are underway, with the focus on Imran Khan’s party as Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Zardari agree to form the government together.
On february 8, Pakistan held its general elections 2024, with a significant turnout despite mobile and internet service suspensions. Over 50% of the population voted, with a record budget of Rs48 billion allocated.
Nearly 18,000 candidates competed on 855 constituencies, and over 1.4 million polling staff were deployed at 90,675 polling stations, 16,766 of which were highly sensitive. The polling lasted from 8am to 5pm, with February 8 declared a public holiday.
Though there were delays and a terror attack in Dera Ismail Khan that claimed four policemen’s lives, the polling process was mostly peaceful. However, the release of unofficial results faced a significant delay, sparking controversy.
Independent candidates took the lead, with PTI and PML-N claiming they could form a majority government, but the final results were awaited.
PTI-backed candidates currently lead with nearly 100 seats, followed by PML-N (71), PPP (53), and MQM-P (17). All eyes are on PTI as the party decides its next steps amidst the uncertainty.
