Jahangir Tareen, the head of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), has declared his departure from politics and his resignation from the party leadership post following his defeat in the recent general elections.
Tareen competed in NA-149 Multan but faced a significant loss, securing only 50,166 votes compared to the PTI-backed candidate Aamir Dogar, who won with 143,613 votes.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Tareen expressed gratitude to his supporters and extended congratulations to his opponents.
I would like to thank everyone who supported me in this election and want to offer my congratulations to my opponents. I have immense respect for the will of the people of Pakistan. Therefore, I have decided to resign from my position as Chairman IPP and step away from politics…

He emphasized his deep respect for the Pakistani people’s choice and announced his decision to step down from his role as Chairman of IPP and exit politics entirely.
Tareen also thanked all IPP members, wishing them success in the future. He vowed to continue serving the country in a private capacity, expressing hope for Pakistan’s prosperity in the coming years by the grace of Allah.
