Karachi – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated former minister Omar Ayub Khan for the prime ministerial position amidst growing political uncertainty and competition among political parties to establish the central government.
Asad Qaiser, the former National Assembly speaker, announced the decision, stating that the PTI had chosen Omar Ayub as its candidate for the position of prime minister.
He revealed his responsibility to engage with other political parties, including ANP, JUI, and others, to form the government.
Asad Qaiser characterized the 2024 election as the worst in Pakistan’s history, alleging widespread rigging and stating that the world is not acknowledging the results.
He asserted that someone had stolen the PTI’s mandate and mentioned that PTI founder Imran Khan intended to announce a protest date against the alleged election irregularities.
This development follows the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) naming Shehbaz Sharif as its candidate for the prime minister’s office a few days earlier. Reports also suggest that PML-N chief organizer Maryam Nawaz is being considered for the Punjab chief minister’s role.
After consultations among allied parties, with approval from the PML-N leader, they will make the final decision on the unanimous candidate for the prime minister’s office.
Provisional results indicated that independent candidates secured 101 seats in the National Assembly, leading the race, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 75 seats.
The PML-N is actively working to build a coalition government in the Centre, reaching out to the PPP and other political parties.
