Eid celebrations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa turned tragic as 18 people lost their lives in drowning incidents across Nowshera, Charsadda, and Kohat districts. Despite rescue teams’ efforts, the holiday turned somber with multiple drowning incidents reported.
The most significant loss occurred in Nowshera’s Kund Park, where a boat overturned, resulting in the deaths of ten individuals. Amid the chaos, only three survived, adding to the tragedy’s toll.
Similar incidents occurred in Kohat, where two individuals drowned while swimming in a dam. Thanks to prompt action by rescue teams, both victims were successfully retrieved, preventing further casualties.
Rescue operations led by teams from Nowshera, Mardan, and Swabi are ongoing, with efforts focused on finding any missing persons and providing immediate assistance to survivors. Despite facing tough conditions, the dedicated personnel remain committed to their mission.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed deep sorrow over the incidents, extending heartfelt condolences to the affected families. He directed authorities to prioritize rescue efforts and ensure swift medical aid for those in need.
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of reviewing and strengthening boating safety measures across the province. He emphasized the need for strict regulations and their rigorous enforcement to prevent similar tragedies in the future, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting citizens’ lives.
