In a tragic incident on Monday, a hotel in Afghanistan’s Khost province witnessed a devastating blast, resulting in the loss of three lives and leaving seven others injured, according to reports from the province’s media office. The perpetrators behind this blast remain unidentified as of now.
The Taliban administration in Afghanistan has been actively conducting operations against the Islamic State, which has claimed responsibility for numerous significant attacks in urban areas over the past months. Notably, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for a horrific explosion at the Nabawi mosque in Faizabad, Badakhshan province last June. The explosion occurred during funeral prayers for the former deputy governor of the province, Mulvi SaifUllah Samim, and resulted in a devastating toll. Around 50 people were tragically killed, and an additional 25 sustained injuries in this tragic incident.
Eyewitnesses on the scene recounted that a suicide bomber deliberately targeted the congregation, including senior officials and Mulvi SaifUllah Samim, the ex-police chief of Baghlan province. The wounded were swiftly transported to Faizabad hospital for urgent medical care.
The Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) claimed responsibility for this attack, citing it as a retaliatory action in response to an operation carried out in Kuner province. The ISKP has not only targeted civilians but also officials within the Taliban administration. One notable incident was the killing of the governor of northern Balkh province in an attack on his office in March.
These tragic events serve as a grim reminder of the ongoing turmoil and violence that continues to plague Afghanistan. The struggle between various factions and extremist groups remains a significant challenge for the region’s stability and peace.
