Netflix’s latest series, Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is trending in both India and Pakistan. It was based in Lahore before Independence, Heeramandi was a passion and a long-awaited project for Bhansali, undergoing several cast changes before its eventual release.
At some point, Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Imran Abbas were also lined up to join the cast. This series is out now, the series has received mixed reviews.
On the other hand, Peer e Kamil is a superhit Urdu novel written by Umera Ahmed. A curious connection has emerged between Heeramandi and Umera Ahmed’s acclaimed Urdu novel, Peer e Kamil.

Umera Ahmed’s novel, revered as a cult classic, transcended its Urdu but, was later released in English language as well. The main character, Salar Sikandar, got more fame than many other heroes.
The paths of Peer e Kamil and Heeramandi crossed when the novel made a small part appearance in the series. However, a notable problem arose; Peer e Kamil was written in 2004, while Heeramandi is set in the pre-independence era.
Umera Ahmed herself also noticed this clash.
