The government of Balochistan has declared a state of emergency in Gwadar following heavy rainfall that has triggered widespread flooding.
Homes in the area are inundated with water, roads have collapsed, and essential services including schools have been forced to shut down.
This rainfall event marks the heaviest since 2010, with Gwadar receiving over 100mm of rainfall in a single day.
Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties so far. The effects of the flooding have extended beyond Gwadar to other regions such as Ormara, exacerbating the crisis.
The Coastal Highway, a vital transportation route, has been rendered impassable, disrupting normal life and traffic flow.
In response to the emergency, paramilitary forces have been deployed to assist the district administration in conducting rescue and relief operations.
Meteorological forecasts had predicted the arrival of a westerly wave in Balochistan, signaling the likelihood of increased rainfall in the area.
