Sindh announces strict new safety rules for school vans

The Sindh Education Department has issued strict safety guidelines for private schools, prohibiting the use of CNG and LPG cylinders in vehicles transporting students.

The directives were issued on the instructions of the provincial education minister and apply to school vans arranged by educational institutions as well as vehicles hired directly by parents.

The department has also banned the use of bottles, cans and other makeshift containers to supply petrol directly to vehicle engines. Officials have warned that such practices pose serious safety risks.

Under the new guidelines, school vans are required to operate within their approved seating capacity. Students are not allowed to travel on footboards, hang from moving vehicles or occupy unsafe positions while travelling.

All vehicles used for student transportation must have valid fitness certificates issued by the Sindh Transport Department. A copy of the certificate must also be kept inside the vehicle for inspection by the relevant authorities.

Private schools have been directed to ensure that all transportation arrangements comply with the new safety requirements and applicable laws. The department has warned that violations or negligence will lead to action against the responsible school administrations under the relevant rules.
