Petrol and diesel prices are expected to increase from September 2, 2026, according to estimates by Tola Associates. Petrol prices may go up by Rs1.08 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) could see an increase of Rs0.50 per litre.
Based on the estimates, petrol may reach Rs343.87 per litre, while HSD could rise to Rs370.91 per litre.
The proposed increase is based on recent changes in international oil prices. During the last seven working days, the average price of petrol was recorded at $106.52 per barrel, while HSD averaged $93.79 per barrel.
The rupee-dollar exchange rate was also considered in the calculation, with Tola Associates using a rate of Rs. 277.65 against the US dollar.

The estimates also take into account taxes, levies and other charges. Petrol currently carries Rs105.96 per litre in taxes and levies, while the amount for HSD stands at Rs100.68 per litre.
Additional costs of Rs25.74 per litre have been included in the petrol price, while HSD includes other costs of Rs21.93 per litre.
If the estimates are approved, petrol prices will increase from Rs342.79 to Rs343.87 per litre. Similarly, HSD prices may rise from Rs370.41 to Rs370.91 per litre.
However, the final decision rests with the government, which will announce the official fuel prices through a notification effective from September 2.
