The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has recommended extending school holidays in districts affected by floods as heavy monsoon rains and flooding continue to impact daily life, as reported on Wednesday.
According to the recommendation, schools in the affected districts should remain closed beyond the previously announced reopening date of August 20. The proposal has been sent to the Punjab School Education Department for review, with officials stressing that the decision is intended to ensure the safety of students, teachers and school staff.
The proposal states that academic activities will stay suspended until floodwaters recede and the situation becomes safe for schools to reopen. Officials said the extension is necessary to safeguard students and education staff while relief and recovery efforts continue in flood-hit areas.

The PDMA has also instructed the relevant authorities to survey schools and other government buildings damaged by the floods. The Communication and Works Department has been asked to compile a detailed report on damaged and unsafe structures to help plan rehabilitation and reconstruction work.
These recommendations are part of the Punjab government’s ongoing efforts to respond to the monsoon emergency as officials continue to monitor the flood situation and assess its impact on public infrastructure across the province.
