The Islamabad Capital Police is set to expand its workforce after the government approved the creation of more than 8,000 new positions to overcome staff shortages and improve policing across major divisions.
Police officials said the department will recruit 8,046 personnel in several phases, with the first phase already in progress. For the first time, recruitment will also be carried out on a cadre-wise basis, allowing officers to serve within their assigned divisions throughout their careers.
At present, the Islamabad Capital Police has 11,654 sanctioned posts, with 9,754 personnel currently serving. Once the recruitment process is completed, the force’s operational strength will increase by nearly 69% across the Operations, Logistics, Security, Safe City Islamabad Authority and Law and Order divisions.

The recruitment drive will also strengthen the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Islamabad Traffic Police, Special Protection Unit (SPU) and Capital Patrol. During the first phase, 1,725 constables and assistant sub-inspectors will be recruited for the Operations, Logistics and Security divisions.
In the next phases, more personnel will be hired for the Capital Patrol, Law and Order Division, CTD, SPU and Traffic Police. Officials said all future recruitment will follow the cadre-wise system, enabling officers to remain in their assigned units until retirement or the prescribed age limit.
Officials added that the new recruitment model will help build specialised teams within each division while reducing routine transfers between different wings. The government has also introduced age limits for field duties in the CTD, Law and Order Division and Capital Patrol. After reaching the prescribed limit, personnel will be shifted to other suitable roles.
