PESHAWAR: At least 17 people, including 14 children, have died and 56 others have been injured after heavy rains caused roofs and walls to collapse in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since March 25, according to a report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday.

Intermittent rainfall continues across Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, North Waziristan, Kohat, Bajaur, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Shangla, and Khyber.

Light snowfall has been reported in higher mountainous regions, while lower hill areas are experiencing a sharp drop in temperature.

In Lower Dir, heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused local streams to overflow and low-level flooding in the Panjkora River. The storms have disrupted electricity, leaving several areas without power overnight. Strong winds and rain have brought colder conditions to the region.

Peshawar and nearby areas have also been affected, with low-lying neighborhoods submerged and water accumulating on roads, causing traffic disruptions. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone areas, and to follow official advisories.

The PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations, and other agencies remain engaged in relief efforts. The director general of PDMA has instructed local administrations, particularly in Bannu, to expedite relief operations and provide immediate support to affected families.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed sorrow over the loss of lives, according to a statement from the Governor’s Press Secretary.

Snowfall in Swat

Swat is experiencing mixed weather, with rain in the plains and intermittent snowfall in the mountains. Upper areas including Kalam, Mahodand, Gabral, Ushu, Matiltan, Gabin Jabba, and Malam Jabba, have reported significant snowfall.

The combination of snow and cold winds is increasing the chill in the region. Snow has covered the landscape, creating scenic views, and tourist arrivals continue to rise. Visitors from across the country are enjoying the snowfall and witnessing live snow in the upper valleys.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain in the plains and snowfall in higher altitudes is expected to continue for the next four days. Travelers are advised to exercise caution when visiting mountainous areas and stay updated on weather conditions.
