Three month deadline given to Sindh govt to improve Karachi’s situation

Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab over the deteriorating civic situation in Karachi, according to sources.

These details were shared by senior anchor Muhammad Malick during the program “Khabar Muhammad Malick Kay Saath” on ARY News.

Sources said that President Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is the chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party, have been staying in Karachi for the past few days and holding internal meetings on city governance matters.

It is also reported that President Zardari asked the Sindh leadership about the challenges related to funding and administrative authority in resolving Karachi’s problems. He showed concern over criticism on traditional and social media, especially comparisons between Karachi and Lahore.

According to sources, the Sindh government has been given a three month timeframe to bring visible improvements in the city and reduce public complaints.

Sources claim that President Zardari expressed anger over long delays in Karachi’s development projects. He advised the chief minister and mayor to consult Mohsin Naqvi regarding completion of underpasses within 60 days.

He reportedly said, “Ask Mohsin Naqvi how an underpass is built within 60 days, while road projects here take years to complete,” adding that roads in Karachi should meet the standards seen in Islamabad.

Sources further stated that the PPP leadership showed displeasure over the recent Karachi Conference held at the Governor House Karachi by Kamran Tessori.

While the party may support discussions related to the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, it is unlikely to support the creation of a new province. Reports also suggest that a possible change in the governor’s position is being considered.
