Rain, hail and thunder bring pleasant weather to Karachi

KARACHI: Rain and hail, along with thunder and lightning, hit several areas of Karachi on Tuesday as a westerly weather system moved across the region, bringing much-needed relief and pleasant weather to the city.

Rainfall was reported in North Karachi, Manghopir, North Nazimabad, SITE, Baldia Town, Orangi, Gulberg, and Liaquatabad. Hail was particularly seen in Nazimabad and Liaquatabad, while the surrounding areas experienced heavy downpours. Showers are expected to continue tonight.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) had predicted rainfall with thunderstorms in Karachi due to a shallow westerly wave linked to a western disturbance approaching the western parts of the country. Its impact is expected to continue over Sindh through Tuesday.

Other cities in Sindh, including Sukkur, Naushahro Feroz, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Mehrabpur, and Shahdadpur, also experienced rain and thunderstorms. The wet weather led to a noticeable drop in temperatures and a return to cooler conditions. In Sukkur, the showers caused intermittent power outages.

Meanwhile, in Balochistan, the rain and hailstorms added to the cold weather in Quetta and also affected Chaman, Qilla Saifullah, Chagai, Harnai, and Musakhel. Low-lying areas were flooded, and streams overflowed. Musakhel recorded both hail and rainfall.

The Met Office has warned of brief thunderstorms in Karachi along with gusty winds, which may reduce visibility at times. Temperatures in the city are expected to range between 17°C and 30°C over the next two days.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to flooding and where strong gusts may reduce visibility.
