Ramazan in Pakistan is expected to begin on February 19, while Eidul Fitr is likely to be celebrated on March 21, according to astronomical estimates released by the Ruet e Hilal Research Council on Monday.
Talking to reporters, the council’s Secretary General Khalid Ijaz Mufti said the Ramazan moon is expected to be sighted on February 18. “Based on the birth of the moon and visibility parameters, the first of Ramazan is likely to fall on February 19,” he said, explaining that the projections are based on scientific calculations.
He stressed that these dates are only estimates and should not be taken as final, as the authority to announce the start of Islamic months officially rests solely with the Central Ruet e Hilal Committee after receiving moon sighting reports.
Regarding Eidul Fitr, Mufti said the Shawwal moon is expected to be visible on March 20, making March 21 the likely date for Eid. “If weather conditions remain favourable, the chances of moon sighting will be stronger,” he added.
He also shared a tentative outlook for Eidul Azha, saying the first of Zilhajjah is expected around May 17. “Accordingly, Eidul Azha may be observed on May 27,” he said.
Mufti reiterated that all these dates are provisional and based on astronomical assessments. “The final and decisive announcement regarding Ramazan and Eid will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee,” he said.
