Within hours of launching the new e-challan system, Karachi’s traffic police issued fines worth over Rs12 million for various violations.
According to a report from the Traffic Police, 2,662 e-challans were generated through the automated monitoring system. These included 419 for speeding, three for lane violations, four for stop-line breaches, and 1,535 for not wearing seat belts.
In addition, 166 drivers were penalized for running red lights, 507 motorcyclists for not wearing helmets, three for driving in the wrong direction, seven for tinted windows, five for illegal parking, and 32 for using mobile phones while driving.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said traffic violations are now automatically detected through modern surveillance cameras monitoring all types of vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws.
He added that the e-ticketing system removes human involvement, ensuring fairness and efficiency while improving road safety. The chief minister said the number of cameras will soon be increased to 12,000, with the system expanding gradually across Sindh.
