Sindh govt imposes heavy fines on traffic violations

The Sindh government has rolled out strict new traffic penalties to crack down on reckless driving, with fines going up to Rs100,000 for major violations.

The updated rules, notified this week, cover offenses such as speeding, underage driving, one-wheeling, drunk driving, and other risky behaviors.

Motorcyclists exceeding the speed limit will face a Rs5,000 fine, while car and jeep drivers will pay Rs10,000. The penalty rises to Rs15,000 for public service and light transport vehicles and Rs20,000 for heavy transport.

Driving without a valid license now carries a fine of Rs20,000 for cars, Rs25,000 for public service vehicles, and Rs30,000 for heavy vehicles.

Reckless or negligent driving will cost Rs25,000 for cars and jeeps, and Rs50,000 for public service and heavy transport vehicles.

Driving in the wrong direction on a one-way road will result in penalties of Rs25,000 for motorcycles, Rs30,000 for cars, Rs50,000 for public service vehicles, and up to Rs100,000 for heavy vehicles.

Similarly, wrong-side driving fines range from Rs5,000 for bikes to Rs20,000 for heavy vehicles.

The government has also tightened rules on parking violations. Parking more than 0.5 meters from the curb or on a sidewalk will cost motorcyclists Rs2,000 and other vehicles between Rs 10,000 and Rs20,000, along with a 2-point demerit.

Parking too close to another vehicle, a zebra crossing, or near hydrants, stop signs, and intersections will attract the same fines.
