LAHORE: Prices of milk and yogurt in Lahore have seen a sharp rise, adding to the financial strain on citizens.
Reports show that in September 2025, rates went up by Rs20 per kilogram. The new prices stand at Rs220 per liter for milk and Rs260 per kilogram for yogurt, compared to the earlier Rs200 and Rs240, respectively.
This sudden increase has hit middle-income households hard, as these essential items become less affordable.
The chairman of the milk association explained that recent floods and heavy rains have caused a steep rise in the cost of animal fodder, which in turn has pushed up production expenses. Farmers are paying much more to feed their livestock, and this added burden is being transferred to consumers.
On the other hand, residents have rejected the new prices and called on the government to step in. Citizens say inflation has already made daily life extremely difficult, and further hikes in basic food items like milk and yogurt will only deepen their troubles.
Public opinion is also pressing the authorities to take strict action against hoarding and profiteering, while introducing steps that can provide relief to both farmers and consumers.
