Thunderstorms, heavy rain hit Karachi, more showers expected across Pakistan

Karachi: Heavy showers hit several parts of Karachi on Tuesday morning, giving residents relief from the city’s humid spell.

Light rain that began in some areas late Monday night intensified into heavy downpours by early morning.

Areas such as Tariq Road, Azizabad, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Boat Basin, Liaquatabad, Hassan Square, North Nazimabad, SITE, Clifton, Defence, Qayyumabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, and Korangi experienced intense rainfall.

Other localities, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Scheme 33, Safora, Malir Cantt, North Karachi, Manghopir, Surjani Town, and Taiser Town, were also drenched, while thunderstorms with heavy showers were reported in North Nazimabad and adjoining areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted more rainfall in the northern parts of the country, with downpours expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Galiyat over the next 24 hours.

Warnings of possible urban flooding were also issued for low-lying areas in Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Lahore, Attock, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, and Thatta.

Morning temperatures were recorded as follows: Islamabad and Muzaffarabad, 24°C, Lahore 28°C, Karachi 31°C, Peshawar 26°C, Quetta 23°C, Gilgit 18°C, and Murree 16°C.

For Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, cloudy skies with chances of rain and thundershowers were forecast in Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramula. Morning temperatures stood at Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, and Baramula 18°C, Jammu 25°C, Leh 10°C, and Shopian at 19°C.
