KARACHI: Well-known lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot and killed in a firing incident near a mosque in Defence Housing Authority Phase 6, according to the source.
Deputy Inspector General South confirmed that his son was also injured during the attack and taken to a private hospital for medical care.
Both father and son were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but Khawaja Shamsul Islam could not survive his injuries. His son remains under treatment for gunshot wounds.
It’s important to note that this is not the first time the senior lawyer was targeted. In November 2024, he was shot and injured in the Clifton area of Karachi.
DIG South Syed Asad Raza had verified that the lawyer was attacked after leaving Masjid Noorul Islam.
Clifton police station head Azam Rajpar stated that about 15 to 20 unidentified men assaulted him after he had finished praying.
They attacked him with iron rods and also fired shots. He suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and injuries to his ear. He was taken to South City Hospital for treatment at the time.
Police had suggested that a personal conflict might have been the motive behind that earlier assault.
