Seven Pakistanis die in road crash during Umrah in Saudi Arabia

BUNER: A tragic road accident in Saudi Arabia claimed the lives of seven Pakistani Umrah pilgrims from the same family belonging to Dagai Khudokhel in Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the report.

Among the deceased were four children. The family had travelled to Saudi Arabia 11 days ago to perform Umrah.

Five other family members sustained injuries in the crash. The family confirmed that funeral prayers for the deceased would be offered in Saudi Arabia.

It’s also important to note that the Ministry of Religious Affairs recently confirmed the deaths of 18 Pakistani pilgrims during Hajj 2025.

The victims included 10 men and eight women, most of whom were elderly and suffered from heart-related or other health issues. All were buried in Jannatul Baqi.

This year’s death toll among Pakistani pilgrims has significantly decreased compared to 2024, when 35 fatalities were reported during Hajj.

In 2025, 1,673,230 pilgrims participated in the Hajj, including 1,506,576 from 171 countries and 166,654 domestic pilgrims from within Saudi Arabia.

The event saw one of the most balanced gender ratios in its history, with 877,841 men and 795,389 women performing the pilgrimage.

To avoid a repeat of last year’s devastating heat-related deaths, when 1,301 pilgrims passed away due to extreme temperatures reaching 51.8°C (125°F), Saudi authorities implemented wide-ranging cooling measures.
