Peshawar weather update: Rain, strong winds likely Sunday night

PESHAWAR: Light rain and windstorms are expected to sweep through Peshawar and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday night and into Monday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The weather office noted that moisture-laden winds are moving into central and southern Pakistan, while a westerly system continues to affect the upper and central regions and is likely to stick around for the next couple of days.

Due to this, off-and-on rain and gusty winds are likely in several districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Peshawar, Charsadda, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan during the night and on Monday.

The PMD has cautioned that strong winds and rain may damage fragile structures such as trees, vehicles, and solar panels.

In Peshawar, temperatures are expected to remain high, with a maximum of 41°C to 43°C on Monday, and slightly cooler at 40°C to 42°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Over the past 24 hours, most of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced hot and dry weather, with some scattered showers. Isolated rainfall was recorded, including 7 mm in Lower Dir, 3 mm in Saidu Sharif, and 1 mm in Kakul, Mardan, and Darosh.

Peshawar and Bannu were the hottest spots in the province, both hitting a scorching 44°C. Dera Ismail Khan wasn’t far behind, with the mercury reaching 43°C.

Humidity levels were quite low in the evening, with Peshawar at 22% and Bannu at 14%.
