Thunderstorm, rain expected in many areas before Eid-ul-Azha

The Met Office has forecast that moisture-laden winds are entering the northeastern regions of the country, and a westerly weather system is expected to move into the upper areas by June 3. As a result of this changing weather pattern:

Dust storms and rain-thunderstorms, some possibly heavy and accompanied by hail, are likely in areas including Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, and Abbottabad from the evening or night of June 2 through June 5, with breaks in between.

Similar weather, with the chance of heavy rainfall and hail, is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, and Waziristan on the evenings or nights of June 3 and 4. Southern Punjab is also expected to experience dust storms during this time.

As Eid-ul-Azha approaches, rain along with wind and thunder is likely to hit areas like Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, and Mansehra from the evening or night of June 7 through June 9.

Possible Impacts and Precautions:

“Windstorm/dust-thunderstorm/hailstorm/lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles and solar panels etc in upper/central parts including Islamabad.”

Farmers are encouraged to plan their farming tasks according to the forecast.

The general public, including travelers and tourists, is advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions during this spell of unsettled weather.
