Car sales in Pakistan dropped by 5% in April 2025 compared to the previous month, but rose slightly, by 1%, when compared to April last year, as per figures released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).
A total of 10,596 passenger cars were sold during the month. The monthly dip was mainly due to highway closures in Sindh, which disrupted deliveries and slowed down sales.
Despite this temporary setback, experts say the slight annual improvement points to a more stable economy, supported by lower interest rates, decreasing inflation, and stronger consumer confidence. Demand was also boosted by the release of new models and upgraded variants
Over the first ten months of the fiscal year (10MFY25), car sales jumped 40%, reaching 111,464 units, up from 79,596 units in the same period last year.
Sazgar Engineering (SAZEW) saw the sharpest drop in April, with sales down 42% to 549 units. However, its performance over the year remained strong, with a 130% increase in total sales, thanks largely to its Haval series.
Pak Suzuki Motor Company experienced a 12% drop in sales from the previous month and a 33% decrease from April last year, selling 4,003 units.
On the other hand, Honda Atlas Cars saw an upswing, with a 20% month-on-month increase and 70% rise year-on-year, selling 1,707 units.
Indus Motor Company posted a modest 4% monthly gain and 58% growth from the previous year. Hyundai Nishat recorded a 9% increase year-on-year, though sales slipped 5% compared to March.
The two- and three-wheeler segment showed strong momentum, increasing 26% from the same month last year and 6% from March, with April sales totalling 135,721 units. This pushed cumulative 10-month sales to 1.2 million units—a 30% rise from last year.
Tractor sales, however, fell 48% year-on-year in April to 1,602 units, reflecting pressure from weaker agricultural activity.
Meanwhile, truck and bus sales saw significant growth, rising 127% from last year and 13% month-on-month to 520 units. Over ten months, sales climbed 85% to reach 3,885 units.
