Islamabad, Rawalpindi weather update: Intermittent rains expected

ISLAMABAD: Intermittent rain and gusty winds are expected to hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several parts of the country starting Tuesday night and continuing through Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly system is affecting the western and upper regions of Pakistan and is expected to stay in the upper areas until March 27.

As a result, spells of rain along with gusty winds are likely in the twin cities, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and northeastern Balochistan during this period. Heavy rain and hailstorms are anticipated in some areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, with snowfall expected in hilly regions.

The weather conditions, particularly strong winds, hail, and lightning, could damage crops and light structures such as electric poles and solar panels.

Additionally, heavy downpours may cause traffic disruptions due to landslides or slippery roads in areas like Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli. Flash flooding is also a possibility in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Mansehra.

Forecast Temperatures:

Islamabad: Expected to reach between 29°C and 31°C on Wednesday, and 28°C to 30°C on Thursday.

Rawalpindi: Similarly, temperatures are likely to range from 29°C to 31°C on Wednesday, and 28°C to 30°C on Thursday.

Recent Weather Conditions:

Dry and warm conditions prevailed in most areas over the last 24 hours. However, isolated showers were recorded in parts of the upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Nawabshah was the hottest location in the country with a high of 42°C, followed by Dadu at 41°C and Mithi at 40°C.

In Islamabad, the maximum temperature reached 28°C with evening humidity at 50%.

In Rawalpindi, the temperature also reached 28°C, and the evening humidity was measured at 33%.
