Karachi water supply disrupted today due to K-electric shutdown

KARACHI: K-Electric has started maintenance work at the Dhabeji Grid and Substation, which is expected to impact the water supply in several parts of the city, according to a spokesperson from the Water Corporation.

The spokesperson said that the power shutdown will last for around nine hours, causing partial suspension of electricity to various feeders at the Dhabeji Pumping Station.

Due to this, the city could face a water shortfall of up to 85 million gallons, potentially affecting daily supply in areas such as Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Bin Qasim, DHA, and North Nazimabad.

Citizens have been urged to use water carefully during this period. The Karachi Water Corporation has assured that the supply will return to normal as soon as the maintenance work is completed.

Earlier, K-Electric confirmed that electricity had been restored at the Pipri water pumping station in line with the maintenance schedule.

A K-Electric spokesperson said the scheduled maintenance was carried out with prior notice and in coordination with the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) to minimize disruption.

The spokesperson added that such maintenance is an essential part of managing the power infrastructure to ensure long-term reliability of the electricity supply in Karachi.

Technical teams from K-Electric worked closely with Water Board officials to manage the operation smoothly and avoid extended outages.

A similar issue occurred earlier when a major fault at the Dhabeji Pumping Station led to a water shortfall of nearly 100 million gallons due to a power breakdown.
