Petrol, diesel prices slashed by Rs22 per litre as Eid relief across Pakistan

Pakistanis received some relief on Eid as the federal government announced a major reduction in fuel prices across the country, lowering both petrol and diesel rates by Rs22 per litre.

Following the cut, the price of petrol was reduced from Rs403.78 to Rs381.78 per litre, while diesel prices dropped from Rs402.78 to Rs380.78 per litre.

The government said the decision was made to provide relief to the public, with the announcement coming on the third day of Eid.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, reducing the financial burden on citizens remains one of the government’s main priorities. The statement added that despite economic challenges, relief measures have continued for the public, including fuel subsidies for public transport, goods transport vehicles, motorcycles, and rickshaws.

Officials also said government measures helped ensure a stable fuel supply in the country at a time when some regional markets reportedly faced shortages and long queues at petrol stations.

The statement further mentioned that during previous increases in global oil prices, the government absorbed rising costs through subsidies of more than Rs130 per litre to protect consumers from sharp increases in local fuel prices.

The latest reduction is being viewed as a welcome relief for households and the transport sector, already struggling with inflation.
