Dengue cases rise to 90 in K-P after recent rains

PESHAWAR: Recent rains and shifting weather conditions have raised concerns for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Department as active dengue cases in the province have reached 90.

Official data shows that a total of 398 people have been affected so far, with 308 having recovered. In just the past 24 hours, 82 new cases were confirmed.

Charsadda has reported the highest number, with 73 patients currently under treatment. Other cases have been recorded in Nowshera and Mansehra (three each), Swabi (three), Lakki Marwat (two), Abbottabad (two), Haripur (one), Mardan (one), Peshawar (one), and Tank (one).

Health authorities cautioned that stagnant water from the recent rains could serve as breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes. All district health officers have been instructed to intensify surveillance and prevention efforts in their respective areas.

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Health, Ehtesham Ali, clarified that the situation does not amount to a dengue emergency.

He advised the public to disregard rumours, take precautionary measures at home and in the workplace, and seek medical attention promptly if they develop a fever.
