The Punjab Education Department has dismissed reports claiming that hundreds of government schools across the province do not have basic facilities such as toilets and furniture.
The department said facilities are provided based on student enrolment and that further work is also being carried out to improve school infrastructure.
Officials said Punjab has 38,018 government schools with a total of 223,793 toilets for students. Construction of another 4,200 toilets is currently underway in different parts of the province.
The department also rejected claims that government schools are operating without toilet facilities, stating that every government school in Punjab currently has access to toilets.

Regarding furniture, officials said schools have been supplied with furniture according to their enrolment. Work is also continuing to improve other basic facilities, including water filtration systems and cleanliness.
The department added that teacher attendance is being monitored through the School Information System (SIS) app. Officials said the digital system has made it harder for teachers to stay absent without their absence being recorded.
The clarification was issued after concerns were raised about basic facilities and teacher attendance in government schools. The department said ongoing efforts are focused on improving school infrastructure, cleanliness and attendance monitoring across Punjab.
