Light rain expected in Karachi as monsoon hits Pakistan

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a three-day weather forecast for Karachi, expecting light rain during the night and early morning hours.

Cloudy skies are likely to persist, with daytime temperatures between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius. Morning humidity may peak at 80 percent, dropping to around 65 percent by evening. Coastal areas will continue to experience steady sea breezes over the next few days.

As monsoon currents shift toward other areas of Sindh, light rain or drizzle is also expected in Khairpur, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Jamshoro.

Meanwhile, heavy and irregular monsoon showers are affecting other regions of the country. Islamabad received 184 millimetres of rain in the past 24 hours, while Narowal and Muzaffarabad saw 62 millimetres each.

Kotli recorded 57 millimetres, Rawalpindi 54, and Murree 42, highlighting the unpredictable intensity of this year’s monsoon.

The National Disaster Management Authority’s Emergency Operations Center has issued a landslide alert for northern areas.

Rain is expected across Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamer, Ghanche, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Bagh and Poonch. Upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Chitral, Dir and Kohistan, are also forecast to receive heavy downpours.

Authorities have warned of increased risks of landslides, mudslides, rockfalls and ground collapse, urging residents and officials to stay alert and limit travel through steep or unstable areas.
