Met office predicts rain in Karachi, temperature to drop from Friday

Karachi: The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain in Karachi on Thursday afternoon, followed by a colder spell from Friday onward.

Other districts of Sindh may also receive rainfall today as a westerly weather system, strengthened by moisture from the Arabian Sea, is expected to affect the region.

Earlier, the Met Office predicted rain in Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Naushehro Feroz, Kashmore, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas and Ghotki on January 22 and 23.

According to a weather website, there is a 60 to 66 percent chance of rain in Karachi between 3 pm and 4 pm this afternoon.

Deputy Director of the Met Department Anjum Nazir Zaigham said yesterday that the weather system will enter Sindh on Thursday, bringing possible rainfall to western districts.

“The mercury could drop in Karachi from Friday as the minimum temperature in the city goes down to a single digit,” the weather official said.

The system is expected to cause noticeable changes in temperature and overall weather conditions in the city. Cold winds from Quetta are likely to reach Karachi from Friday, with wind speeds expected to range between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour, further lowering temperatures.

Experts have also forecast another westerly wave that may affect the country on January 27 and 28, which could again influence weather conditions in Karachi and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has predicted rain in several districts of Balochistan today, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Chaghi, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk and Kharan. Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai and Zhob.
