More heavy rain expected in Karachi till August 22: PMD

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in Karachi on Thursday as the ongoing monsoon system continues to impact the city.

Winds have now shifted to the northeast, blowing at around four kilometers per hour.

Heavy to very heavy showers are expected in several parts of Karachi, with intermittent rainfall likely to continue until August 22, according to the latest update.

On Wednesday, Orangi Town recorded the highest downpour at 113mm, followed by 43mm at Shara-e-Faisal, 35.6mm in Korangi, 31mm in Keamari, and 24mm each at University Road and PAF Masroor Base. Defence Phase-V received 20mm, Saadi Town 15.9mm, while Gulshan-e-Maymar saw the lowest at 6.8mm.

Earlier forecasts from the Met Office had already warned of widespread showers with heavy to very heavy spells across Karachi and various parts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Mithi, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sajawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, and Jamshoro. Scattered rainfall is also expected in Sukkur, Khairpur, Larkana, and Jacobabad from August 19 to 22.

Meanwhile, in Balochistan, areas such as Zhob, Loralai, Barkhan, Musakhel, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Gwadar, Panjgur, and Sibi are also likely to receive rain with occasional heavy spells during the same period.
