Karachi continues to face electricity crisis after two days of rain

KARACHI: After two days of relentless rainfall, Karachi is facing a severe electricity crisis with 98 feeders of K-Electric still out of service, plunging large parts of the city into darkness, ARY News reported.

Officials said rainwater flooded underground cables and substations, disrupting power supply across multiple neighborhoods.

Outages have been reported in Surjani Town, Yousuf Goth, Moinabad, Scheme 33, Baldia, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Bin Qasim, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Manghopir, and Razzaqabad.

Residents of Ramswami, the Old City Area, Urdu Bazaar, and M.A. Jinnah Road have been without electricity for over 48 hours.

The prolonged outage has also cut off the water supply in many households, adding to the misery of citizens.

Meanwhile, Shah Faisal Colony police registered a case on Thursday against K-Electric CEO Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi and other officials after two brothers, Israr Khan and Siraj Khan, were electrocuted outside their home.

Their family said they came in contact with a live underground K-Electric wire submerged in floodwater and died instantly, holding the power utility responsible for negligence.

Torrential rains also triggered urban flooding, landslides at Kati Pahari, and severe traffic disruption on major arteries such as Korangi Industrial Area Road, II Chundrigar Road, and Sultanabad.

In Surjani Town, rescue teams even used boats to shift a patient to hospital as the roads remained submerged.
