Roti prices rise sharply by up to Rs6 across city

The cost of bread has risen sharply across the city, with roti prices going up by Rs1 to Rs6. In many neighborhoods, the officially set rate of Rs14 is no longer being followed, and rotis are now being sold between Rs15 and Rs20.

In areas such as Shad Bagh, Samanabad, and Iqbal Town, tandoor owners have increased prices on their own. They say the hike is due to rising expenses, especially the higher cost of LPG and flour, which has made daily operations more difficult to sustain.

Aftab Ahmed, President of the Naan Roti Association, said that gas shortages along with increasing LPG prices, have badly affected their business. He explained that if gas and flour are made available at lower rates, bread prices could also come down. He also mentioned that a formal request will be sent to the administration to revise the official price.

At the same time, residents have shown concern over the sudden rise in the price of such a basic food item, pointing to the increasing pressure of inflation on household budgets.
