PMD warns extreme heatwave to continue across Pakistan

The Meteorological Department has forecast that a strong high-pressure system will remain in place in the upper atmosphere throughout the current week.

As a result of this weather pattern:

Southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, can expect daytime temperatures to soar 4 to 6°C higher than normal from May 20 to 24.

Northern and central areas, such as central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, are likely to experience 5 to 7°C above-normal daytime temperatures during the same period.

Due to the extreme heat, dust storms and gusty winds may occur in some plain regions.

Impact and Public Advisory:

With heatwave conditions expected, the public, particularly children, women, and elderly individuals, are urged to stay out of direct sunlight, remain hydrated, and take all necessary precautions.

Farmers should plan their agricultural work in line with these weather conditions and ensure proper care for their livestock.

Snowmelt in northern areas could speed up due to the rising temperatures, potentially affecting water levels.

The public is encouraged to use water responsibly in all aspects of daily life.
