The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve a Rs1.20 per unit increase in electricity prices under the fuel price adjustment for June.
According to the petition, the proposed increase is linked to higher fuel costs used for electricity generation during the month. NEPRA is scheduled to hear the request on July 29 before issuing its decision.
CPPA said power plants generated 13.431 billion units of electricity in June, while more than 13 billion units were supplied to electricity distribution companies.
The average cost of electricity generation during the month stood at Rs8.91 per unit, compared to the reference fuel cost of Rs7.71 per unit.

The agency’s data showed that hydropower remained the largest source of electricity generation, contributing 39.03% of the total output. Local coal accounted for 10.11%, while imported coal made up 12.65%.
Local gas contributed 6.45% of electricity generation, imported LNG added 11.02%, and furnace oil accounted for 0.74%.
Nuclear power supplied 13.40% of the total electricity generated during June, while wind energy contributed 5.03% and solar power accounted for 0.82%.
NEPRA will review the request before deciding whether to approve the proposed increase. Earlier this month, the regulator approved a Rs0.34 per unit hike under the May fuel charges adjustment.
The previous increase was applied to all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric, with consumers paying the additional amount through their July electricity bills.
