The Sindh government has declared a holiday for all schools across the province on January 17 in observance of Shab-e-Mairaj (27th Rajab 1447).
An official notification issued by the School Education and Literacy Department on January 13 confirmed that the holiday will be observed by all public and private educational institutions under the department’s jurisdiction.
The decision was approved during a meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Steering Committee on Education.
The notification has been shared with all relevant authorities for immediate implementation, including the offices of the Governor, Chief Minister, and Chief Secretary of Sindh. Directors of school education in all regions have been instructed to ensure that every institution is informed.
Earlier in the week, the Sindh government also revised school timings in Karachi and other parts of the province due to the ongoing cold wave, which has been affecting students, particularly younger children.
The Education Department announced that all public and private schools will now begin classes at 9 am, while closing times will remain the same. As stated in a notification issued on Saturday, the new timings came into effect from Monday, January 12, and will remain in force until January 26.
Officials said the change was made in response to severe cold conditions in various areas of Sindh and on the directives of Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah.
