The federal government has announced more than two hours of load shedding during peak evening hours, along with a warning that electricity prices may increase due to rising global energy pressures.
According to a statement from the Power Division spokesperson, electricity will be suspended for around 2.5 hours daily between 5 pm and 1 am, which is considered the peak demand period across the country.
Officials said the move comes as many countries are dealing with energy shortages caused by disruptions in global fuel supply routes and shipping channels, including tensions in the Middle East and issues affecting key routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
The Power Division said the main reason for the decision is to reduce dependence on costly fuel used for power generation during peak hours.

They added that electricity demand increases significantly in the evening, while hydropower output has fallen in recent days due to seasonal and environmental conditions.
“If expensive fuel is relied upon to meet these requirements, it can lead to a considerable increase in electricity prices,” the spokesperson stated, adding that the approach is aimed at avoiding further financial burden on consumers.
The decision is expected to impact households, businesses, and industries during evening hours when electricity use is highest.
The announcement comes amid continued global uncertainty in the energy sector, with oil and gas supply chains under pressure due to geopolitical tensions and disruptions in shipping routes.
Energy markets remain unstable as countries work to secure fuel supplies and balance domestic demand.
Pakistan, which depends heavily on imported fuel for electricity generation, is especially exposed to changes in global energy prices.
