The Karachi Traffic Police have begun issuing e-challans using drone surveillance to tackle illegal parking in the city, DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah announced on Wednesday.
He explained that drone teams observed busy areas during peak evening hours and spotted two vehicles parked improperly on Zaibunnisa Street. “Each vehicle received a Rs10,000 e-challan,” he said.
DIG Shah added that dedicated teams will continue monitoring several locations with drones, and anyone found deliberately blocking roads or parking illegally will be issued an immediate e-challan.
He further noted that drone surveillance will cover areas from Saddar Mobile Market to Abdullah Haroon Road, focusing on major roads in the Saddar area. The traffic police plan to expand the use of drones to other parts of the city in the coming weeks.
Officials said the drone initiative is designed to reduce congestion in high-traffic zones and support efforts to improve road discipline across Karachi.
