Karachi Traffic DIG suspends all Police leaves for Ramadan

Karachi’s DIG Traffic, Mazhar Nawaz Sheikh, has suspended all police leaves before Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr to maintain better traffic management throughout the city. Leave will only be allowed in cases of genuine emergencies.

Extra police personnel will be assigned during the pre-iftar hours and throughout the final ten days of Ramadan, particularly around major shopping areas, to control heavy traffic. The DIG has directed all traffic divisions to strictly follow these orders.

This decision follows the removal of DIG Peer Muhammad Shah from his position as Karachi’s traffic chief. Sheikh has taken over the role, while Shah has been instructed to report to the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department.

According to sources, DIG Shah’s removal came after he received a notice from IGP Javed Alam Odho regarding alleged misuse of authority in a Hyderabad case last year. Departmental action may be taken if he does not provide a satisfactory response.
