Sindh weather alert: More heavy rain, thunderstorms expected

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more widespread rain with scattered heavy showers in Karachi, Hyderabad, and several districts of Sindh on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

According to the PMD, a low-pressure system is positioned over lower Sindh and is expected to shift westward within 12 to 18 hours.

This system, combined with strong monsoon currents moving into southern Pakistan and a shallow westerly wave over the central and upper regions, will trigger further rain.

As a result, heavy rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is likely in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sajawal, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Ghotki.

Isolated rainfall may also occur in Tharparkar districts, including Mithi, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chachro, Dhali, Diplo, Kaloi, and Umerkot.

On Wednesday, showers are expected again in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sajawal, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, and Dadu, while other districts may see partly cloudy conditions.

The Met Office has warned of possible urban and coastal flooding as well as waterlogging in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Widespread rainfall is also expected to raise the water level in the Hub Dam.

Karachi’s temperature is forecast to range between 30°C and 32°C on Wednesday and 31°C to 33°C on Thursday. Hyderabad will likely record maximum temperatures between 31°C and 33°C on Wednesday and 32°C and 34°C on Thursday.
