In Karachi, at least seven dump trucks were set on fire by furious residents after a tragic accident claimed the lives of a brother and sister on Rashid Minhas Road.
The crash took place in the Federal B Area when a speeding dumper ran over a motorcycle, killing 22-year-old Mahnoor and her 14-year-old brother, Ahmed Raza, and leaving their father critically injured.
In the aftermath, enraged locals burn down several dumpers. Police and Rangers rushed to the scene and managed to restore order. SSP Gulberg confirmed that the driver of the truck involved had been arrested.
Authorities later detained 10 people suspected of participating in the demonstration and burning, moving them to the police station. They said more arrests would be made with the help of CCTV and video footage.
Meanwhile, members of the Dump Truck Association staged a sit-in protest on the Super Highway. Their leader, Liaqat Mehsud, claimed that nine, not seven, of their vehicles had been damaged and vowed not to leave the highway until the attackers were caught.
Rescue workers said the victims’ father had taken them to a wedding in Malir, and the accident occurred while they were returning to their home in New Karachi.
