Punjab introduces major changes in matric practical exams

The Punjab Matriculation 2026 Exam Task Force has announced significant reforms in science practical examinations to promote fairness and clarity in the evaluation process.

According to the new directions, all schools and examination centers must install CCTV cameras inside science laboratories. School principals have been instructed to complete all laboratory arrangements, including ensuring the availability of working computers, chemicals, instruments, and other necessary equipment, by February 28.

After this deadline, technical monitoring teams will carry out inspections of laboratories in every district and tehsil. Schools that fail to meet the required standards could face strict action against principals and laboratory in-charges.

The updated practical examination system will now include two components. The first part will focus on checking the practical record book, where students’ written work and documentation will be evaluated. The second part will involve students performing experiments in the laboratory under supervision.

Resident inspectors will monitor the entire examination process to ensure proper implementation. Schools have also been directed to arrange waiting rooms for parents of female students to make the examination environment more comfortable for families.

The task force stated that these measures have been introduced to improve transparency, ensure laboratories are properly prepared, and maintain fairness in matric science practical examinations throughout Punjab.
