The Education Testing Council, a wing of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, has postponed the Law Admission Test (LAT) scheduled for November 9, 2025, in Quetta due to the current law and order situation. A new date will be announced later.
The decision follows the Balochistan government’s imposition of Section 144 in District Quetta for 15 days.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, authorities have also extended Section 144 to maintain peace and ensure public safety amid ongoing security threats. The restriction applies to public gatherings but exempts weddings, funerals, burials, government officials on duty, and court proceedings.
Officials warned that large gatherings could become potential targets for terrorist attacks and that extremist groups might exploit protests for anti-state activities.
Section 144 was first enforced on October 9, following protests by the now-banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
The ban on TLP was imposed after violent demonstrations in Lahore and Muridke, with the federal government declaring the group a proscribed organisation under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, citing its involvement in terrorism.
