Islamabad changes business timings again

The Islamabad district administration has introduced updated business hours across the capital as part of ongoing austerity and energy-saving measures, with the new schedule taking effect from June 3, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Office of the District Magistrate, shops, markets, shopping malls, bazaars, and general stores including grocery and kiryana shops will now close at 9:00 pm every day of the week, including weekends.

Marriage halls, marquees, and other event venues will be required to wrap up operations by 10:00 pm.

Restaurants, cafes, food outlets, and fruit and vegetable shops will be allowed to remain open until 11:00 pm. However, takeaway and delivery services have been exempted from these time limits.

The new directive replaces the previous notification issued on May 31 and brings slight relaxation in closing hours for certain sectors.

Several essential services will continue to operate without restrictions. These include hospitals, clinics, medical laboratories, pharmacies, and medical stores, as well as standalone bakeries, tandoors, and milk and dairy shops.

Fuel stations, CNG outlets, electric vehicle charging stations, gyms, sports facilities including padel courts, IT companies, and call centers have also been excluded from the new timing rules.

The district administration stated that these revised operating hours will remain effective until further notice.

Compared to the earlier notification, shops and markets have been given an additional hour, while food outlets and restaurants are now permitted to stay open until 11:00 pm under the revised schedule.
