KARACHI: A luxury vehicle stolen from the UK has reportedly been traced to Karachi, as revealed in a letter from Interpol Manchester to Sindh police.
The car was stolen on 22 November 2022 from Harrogate, UK. According to the letter, tracking systems later showed its location in Karachi’s Saddar area.
Initially, the vehicle’s tracker lost signal in Leeds, but on February 11, it was detected again near Korangi Road, Azam Basti, and Saddar. UK police shared this information and sought assistance from Pakistani authorities in recovering the car.
Interpol confirmed that the stolen vehicle’s details are listed in the SMV (Stolen Motor Vehicle) database. Acting on the request, Karachi police have launched efforts to trace and seize the luxury car.
In a separate development, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with Interpol’s support arrested a proclaimed offender in Croatia after 16 years.
According to FIA, the suspect, Iftikhar Ahmed, was wanted in connection with a 2008 dacoity case registered at Agoki Police Station in Sialkot.
He was arrested in Croatia and brought back to Islamabad Airport following a Red Notice issued by Interpol’s National Central Bureau (NCB).
Ahmed had been on the run for 16 years before being tracked down through coordination between Interpol Islamabad and Interpol Croatia.
The FIA spokesperson added that modern technology has strengthened Interpol’s NCB, allowing continuous global communication and the exchange of information to combat international crime.
